Kei Shiogai is Burgundy's most closely watched micro-négociant: a Tokyo sommelier who retrained through Beaune and Dijon, worked with Philippe Pacalet, Armand Rousseau and Jean-Marc Roulot, and since 2020 has made around ten thousand bottles a year across sixteen cuvées — so scarce that some merchants allocate one bottle per customer. He has said his whites aim somewhere between Coche-Dury and Roulot. Corton-Charlemagne is the summit of that range, and the 2023 drew Greg Sherwood MW's strongest language of the vintage set: liquid minerals and wet limestone, densely layered yet harmonious — in his reading “a decidedly more terroir driven, linear, minerally infused expression of Corton-Charlemagne” than the buttery norm, with a drinking window he places from 2025 to 2038 and beyond.

Grand cru Chardonnay from a producer at this level of scarcity behaves like a security with no float: bottles surface rarely and reprice quickly. The wine itself wants five quiet years to unfold and will hold well past a decade.
