Les Corbeaux runs along the boundary of Mazis-Chambertin, which is to say it is a premier cru with a grand cru for a neighbour, and the vines Jane Eyre buys from there are over fifty years old. She owns no land. Everything she makes comes from growers who agree to sell to her, a network built over two decades of living in Burgundy — she arrived from Melbourne on work experience at Domaine Chevrot in 1998 and stayed, working at Comtes Lafon and Domaine Newman before starting on her own in 2011.
Cellaring perspective
Minimum intervention is the method: hand-harvested small parcels, a high proportion of whole bunches, indigenous yeasts, gentle extraction, and used oak rather than new. Gevrey made with restraint and old vines has structure without weight. The Revue du Vin de France named her Négociant of the Year, the first woman and the first non-French winemaker so honoured.
