Cuvée Frédéric Emile is Trimbach's great dry Riesling, drawn from the Geisberg and Osterberg slopes above Ribeauvillé — both grand cru sites, though Trimbach has historically declined to put the words on the label. Thirteen generations of the family have made it in the same uncompromising register: bone-dry, austere in youth, built on acidity rather than fruit, and released only after several years in the cellar.
Cellaring perspective
This is a wine that asks for time and repays it absolutely. Frédéric Emile is famous for closing up for years after release and emerging, a decade on, with honey, petrol and steel. In magnum, that arc is slower still.
