Why this bottle matters
Aligoté is the grape Burgundy spent a century treating as an afterthought. Jérôme Galeyrand, who set up on his own in 2002 and works out of Brochon, bottles six of them separately by site — Chaumont, Le Cran, Le Poirossot, Blanche, Alligotay and a Bouzeron — which is more single-vineyard Aligoté than most growers make of Chardonnay. Le Cran comes off hillside vines at Bissey, on granite: unusual ground in a region that is limestone almost everywhere.
Cellaring perspective
Certified organic since 2019 with biodynamic practice, ambient yeasts, and no sulphur added during vinification — only a small correction at bottling. Galeyrand makes the wines himself, at home. An Aligoté treated this seriously behaves less like the regional white it is classified as and more like a site wine, which is to say it will take a few years rather than needing to be drunk within one.
