Why this bottle matters
There are six separate Aligotés in this range, each from its own parcel, from a grower who set up alone in 2002 and still makes the wine himself at Brochon. That is an unusual thing to do with a variety most of Burgundy blends away or plants where nothing better will grow. Chaumont is one of them, bottled under its own name because Galeyrand thinks the site says something the others do not.
Cellaring perspective
Organic certification since 2019, biodynamic practice in the vineyard, ambient yeast fermentations and no sulphur added while the wine is being made — a small amount only at bottling. His Aligotés are among the most sought-after in the Côte de Nuits, which for a regional appellation is a reversal worth noticing. Wines made with this little intervention ask for careful storage and reward a few years in bottle.
