Saint-Aubin is where the Bachelets live — the cellar sits in the hamlet of Gamay — and Le Charmois is one of the home crus, on iron-rich clay on the Chassagne side of the village. The 2023 was raised twenty-four months in French oak with less than fifteen per cent new, the quiet regime of the house, in the domaine's first ECOCERT-certified vintage; Decanter gave it 94, Morris 91-93. Allen Meadows files the domaine with Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey and Hubert Lamy among the Saint-Aubin names worth seeking out.
Cellaring perspective
Saint-Aubin has quietly become serious white Burgundy country, and the Bachelet style — late bottling, low new oak, natural cork — is built for the middle distance rather than the aperitif. Three years of patience, ten of return.
