Why this bottle matters
Every parcel Guy Bocard farms lies within the commune of Meursault, with a single exception: a vine in the Auxey-Duresses premier cru of Reugne, at the mouth of the valley where Meursault ends and Monthelie begins. It is the only wine in the range that comes from outside the home commune, which in a domaine that vinifies all eight of its cuvées identically makes it the most useful point of comparison it owns.
Cellaring perspective
Auxey-Duresses sits in the fold behind the Côte, higher and cooler than Meursault, and its premiers crus have long been bought by people who know the Côte de Beaune well and want to pay less for the privilege. Upper-slope fruit here ripens slowly. The domaine works under Philippe Pacalet's advice with whole-bunch pressing, indigenous yeasts and minimal sulphur, in barrels used well beyond ten vintages.
