Why this bottle matters
An Aligoté that exists because someone refused to accept the hierarchy. The Arnoux family grew it, bottled it, then decided it was beneath the label and sold the fruit to négociants for years. Charles Lachaux — who took over Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux in 2012 — started a micro-négoce in 2018 under his own name specifically to reclaim those grapes. The parcel is 0.6 hectares at the bottom of Vosne-Romanée on white marly soil, a quarter of it planted in the 1930s.
Cellaring perspective
Whole clusters pressed directly, fermentation started with native yeasts in barrel, no new oak, biodynamic farming, vines unhedged. It carries a regional appellation and the same care as wines from addresses worth many times more, which is the whole argument the bottle is making. The négoce wines are bottled earlier than the domaine's and read more openly young.
