Why this bottle matters
In 2016 Camille Thiriet and Matt Chittick made two thousand bottles in a small garage at Comblanchien, working without running water or electricity. They had met at Nicolas Potel's house and left with something more useful than a job: a network of growers who would sell them fruit. What they chose to do with it is the interesting part. Instead of chasing a prestigious address they set out to champion Côte de Nuits-Villages, the appellation most people skip on the way to somewhere better.
Cellaring perspective
La Montagne comes off a plot at around 280 metres in Corgoloin, where the slope is cut into hard limestone. In 2022 the pair bought a domaine in the same village, so a négoce became a grower. Everything is still done by hand: bucket pump-overs, foot-treading, a ratchet press, indigenous yeasts, no additives, and bottles labelled and waxed one at a time. Wines made at this scale are not built to be opened on release.
