This bottle stacks four kinds of scarcity in one object: a red-label Riserva, which Giacosa bottles only in vintages the house judges exceptional; the Falletto Vigna Le Rocche cru, the estate’s defining site; a 3-litre format produced in small enough numbers to be allocated by name; and a custody record that has remained in professional storage throughout. Any one of these would make the bottle notable. Together, the value is not only the name on the label — it is that the bottle’s history since release can be shown, not told.
The red label is Piedmont's sternest barometer: since 2000 it has been granted only to 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2020 — Bruna Giacosa and Dante Scaglione simply skip the years that fall short. The 2020 comes from Vigna Le Rocche, the oldest vines on the upper, south-facing slope of the Falletto amphitheatre in Serralunga d'Alba, and reaches the market in January 2026; James Suckling found its aromas mesmerizing and its polished tannins running on for minutes, a wine of incredible complexity. The double-magnum count in any release is tiny, and the format's slower breathing stretches an already generational wine further still.
