Vigna Rionda is the most storied cru in Serralunga d'Alba — the vineyard that produced Bruno Giacosa's legendary Collina Rionda Barolos — and Oddero farms a parcel of old vines within it. Their Riserva is made only in exceptional years and released after ten years of ageing, of which a substantial part is spent in large Slavonian botti. It is the estate's most serious statement, made in very small quantity.
Cellaring perspective
Serralunga gives the most structured Barolo of all, and Vigna Rionda the most structured Serralunga. A Riserva from this site is a thirty-year proposition, already released with a decade behind it, and unlikely to be at its peak before its twentieth birthday.
