Why this bottle matters

Gusbourne was the first English house to release a late-disgorged wine, and it began as an experiment rather than a product. In 2007 the founder, Andrew Weeber, held back five hundred bottles of that year's Blanc de Blancs simply to see what a longer maturation would do. They came out seven years later with layers nobody had planned for, and the practice became deliberate. Cool years with high acidity work best, which is why the 2013 was identified for it.

Cellaring perspective

Time on lees is the whole mechanism: taken off too early a wine is thin, left longer it gains body and texture, and in England that extra weight is what balances the natural acidity of the fruit. It is the same principle behind Bollinger's RD and Dom Pérignon's Plénitude, applied to a country that has only recently had wines old enough to try it on. Once disgorged, a wine of this age moves faster than the date suggests.

About this bottle

Is this Gusbourne 2013 authentic and how is its provenance documented?

This Gusbourne, Late Disgorged Blanc de Blancs 2013 0.75L is held in professional bonded storage with documented custody. Its provenance is recorded from acquisition, the bottle remaining in professional custody, and condition is noted. The Empty Drops is a private cellar, not a reseller, and never invents data about a bottle.

How is the bottle stored and shipped?

The bottle is kept in temperature-controlled bonded storage and is not moved unless shipping is requested. It is recorded privately, not offered publicly; it can be released through CruTrade on request.

What does the fill level and condition tell you about this bottle?

Condition is read from the fill level (ullage), capsule and label rather than taken on faith. A bottle that has stayed in professional custody since acquisition avoids the usual weak points — heat, movement and broken records.
