Why this bottle matters
The name is a coordinate. Fifty One Degrees North is the latitude of the vineyards, and stating it on the label is a deliberate act: this is close to the edge of where grapes will ripen at all, and the house says so rather than hiding it. Charlie Holland, then the winemaker, judged 2014 the first truly great vintage England had produced, so the best plots were picked separately and vinified far longer than usual. Just under three hundred cases were made of the first release.
