Why this bottle matters
Les Fichots faces the hill of Corton from the east and stands in its shadow, exposed to the north wind, on clay and limestone with some iron in it. It ripens last of anything Jean-Baptiste Boudier picks. This was one of the three hectares he took from the family domaine in 2015 to make his first vintage under his own name, after he and his father agreed their ideas about wine had parted ways.
Cellaring perspective
In magnum, and from a domaine whose largest cuvée amounts to five barrels. The larger format ages more slowly, which suits a cool-site premier cru made with low sulphur and gentle extraction rather than one built for early drinking. This is a bottle to open at a table some years from now.
