Why this bottle matters
Les Fichots sits in the shadow of the hill of Corton, facing it from the east, open to the north wind, on clay and limestone carrying some iron. The fruit ripens late — it is the last parcel Jean-Baptiste Boudier picks — and cool sites of this kind have gone from being a handicap to an advantage as the region has warmed. Fichots was among the three hectares he took from his family in 2015 to make his first vintage alone.
Cellaring perspective
Pernand-Vergelesses is the address that Corton's neighbours have long been able to buy while the hill itself became unaffordable, and a cool premier cru worked with restraint is where that advantage shows. Fully destemmed, made in concrete and steel with very low sulphur. A wine with more in front of it than a 2024 might suggest.
