Pascal Agrapart is one of the defining grower-producers of the Côte des Blancs, working old Chardonnay vines in Avize and its neighbours with a viticulturist's obsession and a minimum of intervention. L'Avizoise comes from old vines on deep clay in Avize — a heavier soil than the chalk that surrounds it — and gives a Blanc de Blancs of unusual density and breadth, fermented in oak and finished with almost no dosage.
Cellaring perspective
Grower Champagne of this seriousness ages like white Burgundy. L'Avizoise is broad and vinous on release and becomes more mineral, not less, with a decade in a cool cellar. Made in small quantity and increasingly hard to find.
