The bottle that never moved

A wine's life is mostly waiting. The question is not how long, but where, and under whose hand. A case that has not left bonded storage since release carries something no certificate can fake: an unbroken line.

Provenance is usually told backwards — papers gathered after the fact, a chain reconstructed from memory and trust. We prefer it told forwards: the bottle has been here, at this temperature, untouched, since the day it left the estate. Nothing to reconstruct. Nothing to take on faith. The case tells the truth, and the truth is simply that nothing happened to it. In fine wine, nothing happening is the rarest thing of all.
